Temple Fitness Diabetes Prevention Program

The Temple Fitness Diabetes Prevention Program is based on The Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) diabetes prevention program (DPP). It is a twelve-month diet and lifestyle program designed to help those at risk for Type 2 diabetes lose 5-10% of their body weight, through diet and lifestyle changes in an effort to prevent Type 2 diabetes. The Temple Fitness DPP program helps you lose weight and lower your risk of disease through personalized coaching and behavior change, resulting in long-lasting healthy habits and a healthier, happier you.

How it works

Temple Fitness delivers the CDC Diabetes Prevention Program online through video chat telehealth sessions​

In addition to helping lowering the risk to develop type 2 diabetes, the program can also lower the risk of having a heart attack or stroke, improve health overall, and help people feel more energetic.

Steps to Start the Program

Step 1. – Sign-up


Sign up for a group class (First class starts in June 2020). You will be teamed up with 5-20 teammates.

Step 2. – Attend the weekly sessions


Attend the weekly sessions. Attend group classes with your team. Classes cover a variety of health and wellness topics including meal planning, tips for eating away from home, and ways to increase daily physical activity. Class schedule is as follows: Months 1-3: Weekly classes, Months 4-10: Every other week classes, Months 11-12: Monthly classes.

Step 3. – Learn


In between classes, augment your learning by reading key materials posted in the Temple Fitness platform.


Step 4. – Log


Log your food, exercise, and weight using the Temple Fitness platform.

Step 5. – Health coaching


Get individualized feedback in the Temple Fitness platform from your coach on a weekly basis.

  •  a body mass index (BMI) of at least 25, or at least 23 if self-identified as Asian
  • Meet 1 of the following 3 blood test requirements within the 12 months of the first core session:
         A hemoglobin A1c test with a value between 5.7 and 6.4%, or
         A fasting plasma glucose of 100-120 mg/dL, or
         A 2-hour plasma glucose of 140-199 mg/dL (oral glucose tolerance test)
  • Have no previous diagnosis of type 1 or type 2 diabetes (other than gestational diabetes)
  • Do not have end-stage renal disease (ESRD)
